| Structural
steel has been one of our more successful reclaimed materials. Universal
beams and columns are available in most standard section sizes.
Angles, channels, flats and plate can also be sourced from reclaimed.
Straight sections are taken from demolition, dismantled
temporary works, off-cuts and leftovers. Steel can be grit blasted
and primed to your project requirements.
Long lead times help in sourcing the right section
sizes from the most appropriate supplier. We can supply at short notice
but this is reflected in the price. If you have a requirement for
your project, please contact
us to discuss current availability.
Structural steel can be offered with a structural
performance warranty guaranteed by Ellis & Moore Chartered
Engineers.
Examples of projects using
reclaimed structural steel can be seen in our case studies, including
BedZED,
BowZED,
Boston
Properties and the Earth
Centre.
Reclaimed vs Recycled
Please note that BioRegional Reclaimed offers reclaimed steel not
recycled. Nearly all new steel has a recycled content, in some cases
up to 70%. For recycled steel, scrap is melted down and reforged
into new. This involves considerable embodied energy. Reclaimed
or re-used steel is not melted down and so has a much lower environmental
impact than new or recycled steel.
This chart at the bottom of this page quantifies the
environmental benefits of reclaimed steel compared with new and recycled
in terms of Ecopoints.
