Advice for Architects

Architects often hold the key role in determining the sustainability of buildings they design and in influencing clients’ environmental decisions.

Using reclaimed building materials is one of a number of techniques that can be employed to reduce the environmental impact of any development. For example, using reclaimed over virgin structural steel reduces the environmental impact by 95% in terms of Ecopoints. Significant impact reductions can also be gained by using reclaimed timber, stone and prefabricated products.

BioRegional Reclaimed offers a range of reclaimed material consultancy services to architects with the aim of building partnerships on exciting developments with a sustainability agenda. The services are designed in stages to fit the development process, from feasibility stage through design stages to actual construction.

At the feasibility stage we can provide architects with a Reclaimed Building Materials Summary detailing the environmental impact reductions gained when using reclaimed building products. This includes:

  • Details and images of products available
  • Case studies into the use of certain materials
  • An overview of BioRegional Reclaimed and our activities as Reclaimed Materials Consultants.
  • Details of the environmental benefits that can be gained using specific reclaimed materials

This information is available on pages in this website but the review is presented as a three page document that can be seamlessly incorporated into any bid proposal.

In the outline design and planning phase we offer the Project Review Service. This consists of:

  • Design Review Meeting
  • Research into specific reclaimed products
  • Report on reclaimed potential for your project, covering availability and cost
  • Report on reclaimed options to achieve the “big hit” environmental savings

Again this report is presented for inclusion with other project documentation to enhance the environmental credentials of your proposal.

When detailed designs and planning decisions are sought we offer Sourcing Advice giving in depth information on:

  • Material options
  • Specific products
  • Potential sources
  • Current prices
  • Liaison with the architect, client and tendering contractors on specification and quality.

During construction we provide Procurement Management services and take responsibility for the supply of all reclaimed materials specified for the development including:

  • Supplier negotiations
  • Order administration
  • Quality management
  • Delivery scheduling and supervision
  • Product acceptance

The Reclaimed Building Materials Summary is available free to any architect or designer bidding on a project. Please contact us for further information regarding the price of the Project Review Service, Sourcing Advice or Procurement Management.

If you have a project in the pipeline that could incorporate reclaimed building materials or are interested in a specific service we have outlined, please contact us.
