This award winning mixed
use eco-village was developed to strict sustainability criteria. One
of these was that all materials used in construction should be sourced
within a 35 mile radius of the development.
Working within this
and other environmental criteria we sourced and supplied the following
reclaimed materials whilst staying within budget.
- 54,000m of timber
studwork
- 98 tonnes of structural
steel
- 700m2 floorboards
- reclaimed timber
street bollards
- shuttering ply
All materials were
supplied with the appropriate structural certification.
The BedZED development
has since been short listed for the Stirling Prize for Architecture
and has become internationally acclaimed. It receives over 2000
visits each year from architectural professionals and students.
BioRegional Reclaimed have based their offices at the development.
The reclaimed and
low impact building materials used on BedZED formed part of the
Zero Energy strategy which was the bedrock of the ethos behind the
project.
